UT Gardens Docent Program
The UT Gardens is excited to introduce our new docent program for 2016. Docents are guides for museums, zoos, art galleries, or gardens. This program is key to the continued development of our education mission. Throughout the year, we provide tours for garden clubs, school groups and any other organization that is interested in learning more about gardening. The class will provide information on plant identification, how to lead a tour, and how to work with adults and children. The training will provide 9 hours of continuing education for volunteers. Participants who complete all 3 training sessions will receive a UT Gardens t-shirt and will be qualified to lead tour groups in the Gardens.

Cost for 3 sessions: $10

Plant ID & How to Lead a Garden Tour - This session will begin with some basic plant identification. We will look at 10 plants we have growing in the UT Gardens and teach you the scientific names and other growing characteristics. We will also look at some basic tour tips and information how to lead a great tour of the gardens.

Tuesday, March 8; 9 a.m.-noon

Plant ID & How to lead a garden tour 2 - This session will review 10 additional plants growing in the UT Gardens. We will also continue our discussion of what elements make a successful garden tour.

Tues
day, March 15; 9 a.m.-noon

Working with Adults/Children, Garden Tour Practice - We will start our third session by looking at tips and techniques when working with adults and children. We will then take time to have each docent practice giving part of a garden tour.

Tuesday, March 22; 9 a.m.-noon
